"Santa clause is coming to town"

I hope you all have been enjoying Christmas break! In my opinion(and probably most people) it was time for one. Christmas break is more than a vacation to get away from school. It is a time to go be with family and appreciate what you have been blessed with. You get to eat yummy food that fills you to the brim. The food is pretty much a repeat of thanksgiving, except with a couple other things added. This is one of my favorite parts! Aside from eating, you get presents! This is how many people find joy in Christmas. Of course it is fun to receive gifts, but many people miss the true meaning of Christmas. Christ was born. If it was a day for opening gifts they would have called it "present day". Christmas should be a time to go to church and celebrate the fact that our savior came into the world on this day. It is a time to rejoice and give thanks. "Joy to the world, the Lord has come" "Come all ye faithful" "Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel!" The Christmas carols on the radio say it. I hope everyone had a wonderful break and is excited for 2013! Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

Whats the big deal with birthdays?

Why are birthdays so special? Well, first of all you were brought into the world on that day. I would say that is pretty important. It is the day when you took your first breath. You felt life in a pure way. You had not commited any faults; you were an innocent child. You became apart of the world that you would live in for many years to come. You recieved a name that would define you and by which you would be addresed by. On your birthday, you became an important part of this world. Birthdays are very special for all of those specific reasons, but they are also special because it is YOUR day. Everything is about you! YOU get presents, YOU have a party, YOU get sung too. It is a day for you to haev fun doing whatever you want! You get awesome presents from amazing friends which is also nice. I would say that a birthday is a time to celebrate your coming into this world, and a time to appreciate your life. Today is my birthday. Aside from partying and eating too much cake I will reflect on the joy of life.

Home

Narration- Home. I have many places I call home. This is because most of where I go with my family brings great joy to me. When I was eight I lived in Golden Valley with my two sisters and my Mom. My parents had just gotten a divorce so my Dad did not live with us. In the backyard of this house was a swingset my Dad had built for my sisters and I. We played many games on it. I really miss that swingset now because it reminded me of that house. It was a very cozy house with four bedrooms and a big kitchen. The hallway to my bedroom was long and the house was very friendly and inviting with its quiet atmosphere and soft colors painted on the walls. Home to me was this house. It brought me peace and joy.

Description- Peace. Joy. Comfort. Sitting quietly by the fire and sipping hot cocoa with the family. All the children are listening to their Dad read them their favorite story before they go to bed. Dad slowly makes his way to the kitchen to grab the whipped cream out of the fridge for everyones hot chocolate. Mom asks the children about their day in school and their plans for tomorrow. They reply that they are going to ride their bikes to their friends house and have a play date with them. Dad returns from the kitchen with the whipped cream, sprays some into everyones glasses, then continues to read bedtime stories until the children are all soundly sleeping by the fire.

Example- I cannot count how many times I have been to Disney World. Around 18 I think. You would think that I would be tired of it by now but I am nowhere near that. I feel like a little kid as soon as I step off of the plane to go to my hotel. "I am in Disney World!" I think with excitement. This may sound cheesy  but Disney World is so magical. All the characters running around greeting people with warm smiles and laughter, all the glimmering lights and thrilling attractions, send you into a magical place. Joy and happiness overtakes me every time I visit Disney. The wonderful feeling of laughing, singing and dancing is like home to me. I wish I could live in Cinderella's castle. That would really be home.

Compare/Contrast- What is home not? A place with no love. An empty, dark place that makes you feel alone and afraid. Afraid of what? Anything and everything. Home is not a place that has no hope. When times get tough, you need a place that provides comfort and a way out. Home is that place. It is where you can turn to feel that everything will be ok and you can make it through. It is a place where you can be yourself and not be ashamed of it. It is a place for freedom. What it is not is a place that closes you off from the world. Home provides the support and the strength to learn to be free.

Process Analysis- You first need to build a home. This is done with many hours of building a structure that will hold the person/s inside. Before you start to build, you need a foundation. How big it is depends on the families preferences. The other important thing you need a a family or a person to stay in the home. Without a person inside, the structure is just a house. It lacks the qualities of a home. So make sure to have a human being that is willing to live there inside of it. The building process takes a while, so patient builders are also a necessity. In short, you need people that will build the home, materials to build the home, and a person who will live inside the home.

Division of analysis-  What are the parts of a home? The family or the person staying in is a big part. They determine the whole design of the home inside and out. They also make the house a home by bringing spirit to it and love to it by tending to it. The second part of a home is the love and care. When someone says that something is homey, they are feeling the warmth and love given off from the home. Without this, a home is just a structure that is waiting for some care. There are many parts to a home. What other ones can you think of?

Classification- Home can be classified as anything that brings you complete happiness, such as a place that makes you feel like you are a little kid again, or somewhere that brings back great memories. I guess you could say it is a food, but that is a little weird to think about. Whatever you want to call home
will do. Generally, it is a place that makes you feel like you are flying or you are on top of the world. It   should feel comforting and safe. It should make you feel loved and peaceful.

Cause and effect- Home is caused by a want. This want comes from a person that desires a place to settle themselves down either by themselves or with another person. It is a want that is strong enough to drive a person to buy a place for lots of money and place all of their belongings in it. It is a want for comfort and love. The effect of this want is the actual house itself. When people want something, they usually find a way to get it. Thus, when a person wants a home, they buy one!

Definition- Home is a place for someone to stay. They place their belongings in this home and begin to form the inside of the home with their belongings. Home is where the heart is. This is a popular saying that means a persons heart can mostly be found in a home. Home is a place of happiness, peace, relaxation, and love. A person feels the warmth of a home through the love it gives off. A home is a peaceful place that provides support, love, and safety.

Argument/Persuasion- Home is where the heart is. I believe this saying, but is it really true? Does everyones heart lie in their home? Or does it lie in their boyfriend that they have been dating for three years? Or is it in their favorite sport? Maybe they do not have a good home that provides love and support. Maybe it is a place of danger and anger. No ones home is the same, and no one person is the same. Depending on the person, home can be where the heart is or not.

Time for a redo

Let's be honest. Everyone has regrets. When I was a child, I messed up on a lot of things. Wether it came to not making my bed in the morning when my Mom told me, or staying up to late with my sisters, I messed up a lot. One thing that I regret when I was a child was not listening to my Dad when he told me no. I have two sisters, Dena and Maria. Before I moved to Plymouth I lived in Golden Valley. I had a beautiful house that had a swingset my Dad built in the backyard. My sisters and I loved to play games on that  swingset. In the winters we would sled down the slide and make snow angels all over it. In the summer we would play water games on it. We had a lot of fun with that swingset! One day, Dena and I wanted to go out and play on the swingset. It was a hot summer afternoon and we had a dinner we needed to be at later that night. Now that I look back on this I am  not surprised by  my Dad's response. "No". He said. "But whyyyy???????????". Asked Dena and I. "Because we have things going on tonight and I don't want you two dirty. "Fine". Well, of course Dena and I went and played on it! We were in our swimsuits and decided to soak the entire swingset with water. Slowly, the ground turned in to mud and Dena and I played our hearts out in it. After all the excitement, we thought we were sneaky and slipped back into the house. Right in the doorway stood our dad, angry as ever. In a very calm voice he said"leave your swimsuits on and get in your beds. Stay there for an hour. GO." He spanked Dena and I and we ran to our beds as fast as a lightning bolt. We layed  in our beds and rolled around feeling the mud cake onto our skins. From underneath her covers I heard Dena say "Nicki, this was a bad idea." All I could say was "Yes, yes it was." We both came out after an hour and our dad let us shower. He did not say a single word about that instance the entire night. Form this, I regretted not listening to my Dad. I wish I would have. It would have saved me from a dirty bed!

The power of humor

Today I was bored and felt like I needed a laugh. I knew the perfect song. Humor has many positive effects. For one thing, it makes you live longer. Yes, there are studies on it. Most of all humor creates smiles and creates joy. This song says it all. Everyone wants to laugh. You are filled with a great feeling when you laugh. There are no words to describe it. Please enjoy this video. If you do not know the musical this is from I strongly suggest that you watch it.

My glorious Friday and Saturday(Sunday was not bad either)

My title does not lie. My weekend was quite glorious. Friday was filled with lots of events. First was of course, was school. I wouldnt say that was amazing but it was better than usuall. After school I went to a friends house and did homework. Ok, so far you probably are thinking that there is no way my weekend was glorious. It gets better. So I did my math homework. The best part was that I sang with my friends the entire time. We sang Mozart(yes, I amchoir nerd), Wicked, christmas carols, Taylor Swift, and The Sound of Music. This made math a million times better. Everyone had a great time and was singing along. Dont worry, we actually got homewrok done! We were all starving by the time we finished singing so we all went to Smashburger, a.k.a the best burger place EVER. Everthing about it is great except the fact that your hands smell like grease for about two days. It is definatly worth it. My friends and I laughed so hard at our table that the entire resturaunt was staring at us the entire time. I have not laughed that hard in a while. We all managed to stop laughing and make it out the door into our cars. We drove back to our freinds house and guess what we did? We played more music! This time it was the violin not our voices. I am proud to say that I know how to play the violin. I did not say how well, but I do know how. My Friday ended with a couple youtube videos when I got back to my house. Then came Saturday. Not as eventfull as Friday but pretty fun! I woke up and went to The Original Pancake House to celebrate one of my close friends birthday. I had three AMAZING pumpkin pancakes. I was in heaven. We all wished our friend a happy birthday then went to the same friends house to hang out. We sang again(shocker) and created a caroling group. There are around nine people in the group and we have planned to go too two senior citizens homes and one hospital to carol. The songs were figured out and we all practiced. We all sounded amazing. If anyone wants some good caroling for Christmas let me know! Later that night I went with my Mom adn her boyfriend to a raffle where I ate really great food. If there is food involved I am always there. It was very exciting except I did not win anything. Oh well, better luck next time. I saw some very interesting people there. There were manythat should not have had another drink. It was dinner and a show! Now the boring part of Saturday started. I had to get some lovely chemistry notes to do my homework. I got it done after an hour of pulling my hair out. The rest of the night was filled with homework. Sorry for the boring ending. I have not gotten to Sunday yet but I am sure it will be just as glorious as Friday and Saturday.

"We are family"

In short, my family is exactly like the family in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. We are loud, laugh a little too much, eat too much, and have a ginormous family. This year, my dad, my sisters and I went down to Rochester MN to celebrate thanksgiving with my dad's side of the family. If there was a song that described my family it would be "good time" by Owl city and Carly Rae Jepsen. One of my many cousins, Tia, is an amazing cook, and she cooks the turkey and most of the appetizers. We always have spanakopita, or spinach pie, and tiropita, cheese pie.  This year, my sisters and I helped make both of those dishes. They were very fun to make, but very messy and time consuming. They ended up being amazing! She also makes homeade pumpkin pie for dessert which is always a treat! The family that was down here was Mariya(my cousion), Johnny(my other cousin), Tia(yet another cousin), Thea Connie(Aunt Connie), Uncle Nick, my dad, Yiayia(grandma), Papou(grandpa), Uncle Jim, Louis(my cousin), and Diana(a family friend).

Thea Connie makes the sweet potatoes, cranberries, and whatever else we decide to eat. Everyone helps cooking the food but Thea Connie and Tia always end up cooking the most. Before the thanksgiving meal(or feast I should say), we have appetizers  There are always nuts, chips, crackers, and cheeses out. My family makes a special chip dip that is cream cheese and chili sauce blended together. It is absolutely delicious. The adults begin to drink while the youngsters grab a pepsi from the garage, and by this time everyone is laughing their heads off and is already full. Finally my Thea Connie manages to gather everyone in the dining room for prayers. The table is beautifully set with napkins in shimmering gold napkin rings, dishes sparkling in the light, and the candles and flowers neatly placed in the middle. We all begin to recite the Lord's Prayer, and in the background the two dogs begin to bark. After that, we all sing Johnny Apple Seed. When the prayers are done, my Papou says a few words that really makes the family realize how thankful we are for each other and the blessings that God has given us. Everyone takes their seats and the food gets passed around. We all laugh our heads off and everyone talks about random things. It is a great time.In the beginning  everyone talks about how good the food looks and tastes and lots of "great jobs" are heard around the table.

After a while, everyone goes for seconds and everyone keeps chatting. This year, the napkin rings were a big hit. My two sisters, Dena and Maria, and my cousin Mariya, decided to experiment with them and put them on our eyes, noses, and ears. There were twelve napkin rings on the table. Everyone started laughing at us and of course, my Uncle Nick got the camera out. After the pictures, My sisters and I stopped with the rings but Mariya kept going! She eventually got all twelve rings on her face, which was very impressive. She looked hilarious!Mariya is known as "smiley joe" and "the energizer bunny". I cannot recall a time when she stopped laughing or smiling. She is a beautiful greek girl, that has dark, gorgeous features. Her eyes are glazed over with happiness and her hair is always made into a perfect updo. She lights up the room with her smile and makes everyones sorrows go away. With her dancing and singing, she is hard to miss. With every perfect note she hits and the beautiful dance she dances, everything about her is accented. She is extremely intelligent and dedicated. Mariya makes my life better. I wish I lived with her. She is honestly the best cousin in the world. So my entire family was loud and crazy during the meal. When we were preparing the food, I payed attention to how people acted under stress and how they kept themselves motivated to make more food. My family did not get mad and start yelling at each other when someone forgot to bake something or bring something over to the table. They were very clam and covered for people when they messed up. My Yiayia forgot to put the sweet potatoes in the oven and I thought everyone would groan and get really mad. I also thought that Yiayia would have a fit. She just laughed and said sorry ion a joking way, than put them in and kept making other food. Everyone else was clam as well. When there were times we were rushing to get things done, everyone helped each other and was working furiously to complete the task. Not one person yelled at another. If I was with my Mom for Thanksgiving, there would have been lots of yelling. After the meal, Everyone picked up their dish and brought them to the kitchen

. The cleanup crew this year was Uncle Nick, Mariya, Dena, Maria, and I. It was the most efficient cleanup I have ever done. We all took turns hand washing things so no one got upset that they were washing the entire time. All the other family members went into the media room and watched the football game while we cleaned up. My dad's side of the family is very theatrical and musical. We sing to everything and quote lots of different movies and songs. So, as you would expect, we sang and danced through the entire cleanup. It was one of the best times I have had in my life. This continued for a very long time until everything was put away. Everyone was very clam and helpful during this process. No one complained out loud and everyone seemed to enjoy cleanup. After this, all the deserts were brought out and we all chowed down. Again. Then the same thing happened during cleanup. Then we all got tired and decided to watch a movie. Mariya, my sisters and I went downstairs and watched How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, while everyone else upstairs watched Die Hard. Funny contrast of movies huh? We all laughed loudly and cuddled on the couch. About halfway through the movie, my cousin Johnny came in and joined in on the laughter. He is a fan of romantic comedy and chick flicks. After our movie we went upstairs and saw the last of Die Hard. It was such a different atmosphere then downstairs.

People started to leave after the movie, and my family ate some of the leftovers. To say the least, we were all about to explode. The next day we spent at the mall. It was a great time. We all got great deals and really cute things. We moved very quickly and danced and sang through all the stores. I told you we were theatrical! The next day we went shopping again. We bought a million things from Forever 21 and JCP. It was crazy! We all sang and danced(again), and enjoyed each others company. My family was very loud and hilarious this Thanksgiving. I wonder where I get it from. I had a great time. I am so thankful for my family and I wish I could be with them every second of everyday.

Visual Argument Cartoons

1x1.trans Presidential Debates, Like Political Cartoons, Are Shallow    This cartoon argues that Obama needs to work on how he presents himself in the presidential debate. Viewers argued that Obama struggled with his body language and the flow of his words more than what he actually said. When you first look at this cartoon your eyes are immediately drawn to Romney and Obama's head. The white surrounds them and makes them stand out more than the audience who is faded in the background. Romney has a paper on his podium and Obama does not. This suggests that Romney was more prepared then Obama. The visual argument of this is that Obama needs to work on his presentation of his information.

argument cartoons, argument cartoon, argument picture, argument pictures, argument image, argument images, argument illustration, argument illustrations This cartoon is about a husband and a wife. It argues that Wives are always right and husbands are always wrong. You can tell this is the argument because of their shirts. Everything is focused in the center so your eye is not drawn to any one specific image. The wrong and right are is caps on the shirts which shows that the creator of this cartoon wanted to stress this point because it was the base of his argument. The wife looks very happy because she is always right and the husband looks unhappy because he is always wrong. These facial expressions are expected because when people are correct they are happy, and when people are wrong they are unhappy. The creator of this cartoon intended for these expressions. The visual argument of this cartoon is that wives are always correct while husbands are always incorrect.

Thanksgiving! Yeah!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX5AJVpVnBQThank God, a break. I am excited to go and see my family! I am going down to Rochester with my grandparents, my dad, and my two sisters to spend thanksgiving with my dad's side of the family. We do not have any traditions we do besides getting together. We just make a lot of amazing food then chow down! It is always a good time. Thanksgiving is a great holiday that means a lot to many people. It is a time to take a step back and realize how much you have and to be thankful for it. Black friday is the day after Thanksgiving  I feel that it is very ironic that people spend one day sharing what they are thankful for, then the next day they trample each other in the hallway of Target just to get a movie that's on sale. Word of advice, be careful if you go shopping that day! Anyway, I am very excited to be with my family over Thanksgiving break. Have a great break everyone! Eat lots of food!

Yep, I guess we are all dumb

Mark Bauerlines argument is that teenagers nowadays are so wrapped in technology and are not focused on school, casing them to become dumb. Their world is on the computer that supplies all the knowledge they need. He argues that people use excessive ammounts of technology by providing many statistical facts on how much time kids spend studying on an average night, how low the scores on standardized testing has gotten, and how many kids use tumblr, facebook, and twitter. He starts of his argument by saying that kids use way to much technology then begins to provide facts on studying time, etc. The last chapter of the book argues the many ways of how our culture has changed because of technology. The structure of his argument is statement, reason, cultural tie.

I agree that people use to much technology and that this affects the knowledge of people today. "The latest social and leisure dispositions of the young are killing the culture." I agree with this because I can tell that people are not as connected to other people and are not involved in anything that is not online. People do not branch out anymore to try and do new things. They do it all online."The knowledge principle forms part of the democratic faith, and it survives only as long as a fair portion of the American people embraces it, not just intellectuals and experts." I agree with this statement very much. I can tell that in society today, people are not as smart as they were because they spend too much time on social networking sites. They have the neccesary tools to become educated but they use them to their advantage. If people do not try to gain more knowledge, how can knowledge be maintained/kept?

"For those who are disposed to intellectual sport, they embark automatically disadvantages by their social habitat." I disagree with this because some people may benefit from being social. What if htey talk about knowledable things? What if they are seeking knowledge when interacting? This would be a good thing. "Democracy doesnt prosper that way. If tradition survives only in the classroom, limping along in the watered down lessons, if knowledge doesnt animate the young when they are with each other and by themselves, it wont inform their thought and behavior when they are old. I disagree with this because kids can still learn things outside of the classroom. If they choose not to learn as kids they can still learn, maybe not as fast as if they learned as a kid, but they could still learn. No one learns everthing as a child. Everday is an opportunity to learn something new.

I think Bauerline's argument was very effective. It was very hard to find things I did not agree with. The argument made me feel dumb but I knew it was true. All the statistics he provided were correct. He made himself very credible and was very persuading. Overall, his argument was very effective.

The sexy Halloween costume. This is what pretty much all of the teenage girls wear. The sad thing is that the costumes they choose to make sexy are costumes that should not be considered sexy at all. Mummies, ninja turtles, and creepy dolls are far from sexy. Why do we have sexy costumes?

Halloween used to be a day for abstinence and a day to honor the dead. It also used to be a time when girls would go on dates with guys. They would get together and go out. Sadly, but not surprisingly, society has turned nice costumes into sexy costumes for all of the wrong reasons. You can probably guess where I am going with that. Guys want girls for obvious reasons and when girls dress up sexy and go to parties, guys are satisfied.

Sexy costumes have put a staple on today's society. Girls nowadays want to appeal to guys and dress up slutty just to have an excuse. Because Halloween is a day for costumes, girls have an excuse to dress up like sluts. Society has so many naughty things nowadays that girls think it is no problem to dress up this way. Instead of calling this Halloween, why don't we call it day of the sluts?

Rhetorical halloween? Whaaa?

If you did not know, I am a triplet. I have an identical sister and one fraternal. When we were very little my mom decided that she wanted us to be pumpkins for Halloween. She had a lady make our costumes and we got to wear them and sit there and look cute. That was the whole reason she made it. And she did not want to buy real pumpkins.

The argument of this Halloween costume is that the three of us were very cute, and our mom did not want to buy real pumpkins so we were her pumpkins that year. This is rhetorical why? Because by our mom dressing us as pumpkins, she was trying to persuade everyone else that we were cute! I would have agreed with her.

My puppy

My puppies name is Tiko. He is probably the cutest dog in the world. When I first got him I couldn't imagine what life woud be like with him in it, and now after having him for a year I can't imagine what it would be like without him. He makes me so happy when I am having a bad day, and even when I am not. He is the energizer bunny every day. His favorite toy is his frisbee, which I throw for him after school. I swear he never runs out of energy. After a while of throwing it, I am on the ground panting while he is waiting for me to throw it again. He keeps me in shape. In short, I love my puppy and I am lucky to have him.

Humor Responses

The delivery of this stand up routine makes the humor work. Ellen uses many different inflections in her voice to emphasize funny moments on the plane. Her body language shows a lot of emotion and the actions she uses are very funny. She also uses sound effects during a long pause that helps the humor of what she just said sink into the audience.

People watching at Starbucks....:)

1) People were very impatient when they were waiting for there coeffe. They were looking around and stamping their feet while they popped a hip.
2) The workers and people enjoying their coeffe were very diligent and focused. The workers made the drinks very quickly and treated the customers very kindly while the customers got work done at their tables.
3) Everyone was on technology. People walked into the store on their phones and many of them also had computers that they were using. One person even ordered while they were on the phone. How rude.
4) Nobody smiled or said hello to the cashier when they said hello. They got what they wanted then went on their way.
5) The people were dressed very nicely. It looked like they cared a lot about how they looked and put a lot of effort into their appearnce.
6) Many people were not in good shape. They did not stand up straight and were not toned. They looked very lazy.
7) All of the people were wearing warm clothes because it was cold outside.

Abortion

Aboriton is the murdering of a human life. A fetus is a living being. Many people think a fetus is not a human life because it is difficult for it to care for itself. Are the same people the make this argument about a fetus saying that it is ok to kill an elderly person in a nursing home because they have trouble caring for themselves? If they still think it is ok to kill them, who decides that it is ok to do this? How far do we go? A fetus is gods creation but more importantly, it is a living being. It has fingernails, moves in the womb, has a heartbeat, and can feel. Murder is conciously ending a life. Murder is illegal. Abortion IS murder, therfore it should not be legal.

Response: assingment number two

I agree that our emotions can lead us to be biased. Many people do not realize the effects that images can trigger in our brains. I think that this assingment is very interesting and gives great analogies that help us understand how the brain has two hidden circuits. I thought that the british band story was very inspiring. It made me want to be more creative. This assingment is a great way to expand our thinking about creativity and emotions.

The writing Process

Usually it takes a lot of brainstorming for me to begin writing. I typically create a bubble map , write about one of those ideas, then revise what seems to be a million times. Writing is a long process for me but I enjoy it. It helps me discover interesting facts about things I have never heard of and helps me recall things about my life. I look at writing as a way to destress myself. Getting my feelings out on paper takes a load off. The process of writing is much like a story. It has a beginning, middle, and an end. It begins with jotting down possible things to write about then writing them on paper and formating it the way you want it. The middle is when you add new thoughts to create a draft in order to have someone proffread it. It ends with creating a final draft and using spellcheck to see if you payed attention in english class. The writing process may be hard at times but it is a fun way to express yourself and learn more about the world around you.

About me!

This, is my first blog EVER.

Many of my friends have blogs and stay connected with everyone that way and with the use of facebook. I do not use my facebook very often and I did not know what a blog was until today. Hopefully I will get better at this soon!

It is the second day of school and last night I already had lots of homework on top of a volleyball game. We won, so I was not feeling to bad about doing homework. Still, I need to ease into the mode of school. My body clock is so off and waking up at 6 am is not an ideal thing to be doing right now! Oh well, I can adapt fast. I am a junior now or should I say, upperclassman. I am excited to work hard and soon be a senior!

I hope this blog was somewhat interesting. I will be writing soon!
